The machine is a mechanical 'display' comprised of elements that can be controlled and moved dynamically to create changing geometries. Each element of the machine is one metre long and 10 x 10 cm in frontal projection and is controlled independently by custom software. The 'pistons' have a maximum displacement of 70 cm. The 'display' is comprised of 100 elements, stacked five high by 20 long, and can be controlled by either pre-programmed routines or live input.
The Piston Wall project is the result of ongoing research into the utilisation of flat bed CNC technologies in creating complex mechanical devices.
