Atomos / Wayne McGregor / 2013

Studio XO was commissioned by Studio Wayne McGregor to design costumes for Atomos in 2015. We began the creative process by attending the dance development sessions run by McGregor and his team. Soon we had built a prototype electrodermal activity sensor that we used to measure the emotional response from McGregor, his dancers and us as observers. We used the data to drive design decisions through parametric modelling. The resulting costumes were embedded with the biological rhythm of the dance.

My role on the was as Technology Director. I was involved in developing the original concept and later, the parametric model. I also developed the hardware we used to measure electrodermal activity.
